Eugène Boch was a Belgian painter, and one of Vincent's best friends, who had lived with him in Arles the summer before Gauguin arrived. Vincent's other close friend was Paul-Eugène Milliet.

These are the portraits Vincent painted of his two friends, which hung in his bedroom in the Yellow House. (Boch on top, Milliet below.)
